GBI: McDonough City Councilman Rufus Amis shoots son
Councilman Rufus Amis

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting at the home of a McDonough City Councilman.

The shooting stemmed from an argument between Councilman Rufus Amis and his son, according to the GBI. The incident happened sometime between 9 and 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A GBI representative told Channel 2’s Richard Elliot that Amis fired a waing shot into the ceiling using his .9 mm shotgun, and the gun jammed. Amis’ son, Orlando, then ran out of the house, the GBI said.

Amis fired at his son twice, striking him once, the GBI said. Orlando Amis is recovering from his wounds at the Atlanta Medical Center. His father is being held at the Henry County Jail on an aggravated assault charge.
