DeKalb police are looking for the gunman who shot a gas station owner in broad daylight on Monday.

The shooting happened around 11 a.m. on Buford Highway near Dresden Drive.

Shirazali Kassam, 64, was shot in the chest right outside the gas station. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. His son, Rahim Kassam, said he was doing well.

Police said they believe the shooter had been casing the store. They said he was shot after exchanging words with someone.

The man's son, Rahim Kassam, said his father was loved by customers and doesn't understand who would have shot him.

"I don't know what he got out of it. It's just sad to do that to an older person who you don't even know," said Rahim Kassam.

DeKalb Police Sgt. Jim Sheppard said that Shirazali Kassam was well-known and respected by members of the community.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage in order to get a good description of the suspect.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
