ATLANTA - A top lawmaker in the Georgia Senate is facing questions over his work as a paid lobbyist for a special interest group.

The Atlanta Joual-Constitution reports that Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers, a Republican from Woodstock, was paid during parts of the past two years by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. The newspaper says Rogers also co-sponsored a Senate resolution supporing the group's agenda.

Rogers says he got involved with the organization because of a keen interest in nutritional issues. He says he wasn't paid during legislative sessions and has since quit the position.

Bill Bozarth of the watchdog group Common Cause's Georgia chapter says it's inappropriate for any elected official to double as a lobbyist.
