Ga Reps.- elect Hice and Loudermilk oppose Boehner
Two U.S. House members-elect from Georgia, Republicans Barry Loudermilk and Jody Hice, opposed today House Speaker John Boehner's (R-Ohio) candidacy for speakership in the 114th Congress.
The House GOP conference chose Boehner as their candidate once again, with just three votes against him, according to FOX News. The opposition included Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.), and Reps.-elect Lodermilk, who will represent Georgia's 11th congressional district, and Hice, who will represent Georgia's 10th congressional district.
During the 2014 campaign, Hice sharply laid out his opposition to Speaker Boehner. In a July debate against his Republican challenger, Hice said that he'd support "new leadership, and new leadership with a backbone" rather than Boehner. Loudermilk was also expected to oppose Boehner for the position.
Boehner won't be officially the speaker for the 114th Congress until January. He was first chosen for the position in 2011, in unanimous vote. Since then, his support wavered here and there and many conservative pundits want him out. But the speaker clearly still has a significant support in the House and he solidified it even further today by attacking President Barack Obama on the expected executive orders on immigration.
Boehner might see his strongest two years yet, with the largest Republican majority in the House since 1930's and an ally in the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
