Ga. Hunter Norman Hale Sentenced in Killing of Forest Ranger Christopher Upton
A 42-year-old McDonough man has been sentenced to five years in prison for the shooting death of a U.S. Forest Service ranger.
U.S. Attoey Michael Moore says Norman Clinton Hale was also sentenced to three years of supervised release after his prison term.
Hale pleaded guilty last year to fatally shooting 37-year-old officer Christopher Arby Upton, who was killed in the line of duty in 2010 in the Oconee National Forest in Jasper County. Hale was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the killing of a federal officer and with discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
Moore says the judge issued sentences of five years in prison each for two of the charges and six months for a third, but the judge ordered that the sentences be served simultaneously.
