A Fulton County man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities said he beheaded a dog and later barricaded himself inside a home, prompting a SWAT response.

Police responded to a report of animal cruelty at a residence in south Fulton County, where officers discovered the remains of a dog that had been decapitated, according to investigators. Authorities said the suspect was still inside the home when officers arrived.

The man refused to come out and made threats during a standoff that lasted several hours, police said. The Fulton County Police Department’s SWAT team was called to the scene as negotiators worked to secure his surrender.

Fulton County Police vehicles line a residential street during a SWAT standoff following an alleged animal beheading on Illinois Avenue on Feb. 11, 2026.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody without further incident. No officers were injured.

He was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and additional offenses related to the standoff, including obstruction and making terroristic threats, authorities said. Jail records show he remains in custody.

Investigators have not released a possible motive. The case remains under investigation.
