Forsyth County Pastor Derek Gillett Charged With Child Molestation
A Forsyth County pastor has been charged with child molestation and sodomy.
Police charged Derek Gillett, 38, of Alpharetta Wednesday.
Two teenaged girls reported that Gillett molested them, according to officials.
Gillett is the pastor of the newly-formed Cornerstone Community Chapel in Forsyth County. Police said the two alleged victims were not members of the church.
"Well you just told me so it's sinking in right now but I would've never guessed it," Gillett's neighbor Gordon Harris told Georgia Newsday.
Harris said the charges don't seem possible for the man he knows. "Well this is a complete surprise to me because Derek, I see him in the yard sometimes, he plays with his kids and I would not have thought this of him," said Harris.
"We were just so shocked and devastated whenever we turned on the TV this morning and heard the news," said another neighbor, Phyllis Naas.
Naas told Georgia Newsday the arrest must be devastating for Gillett's wife and four children. "I called her this morning and left a message and said that if there was anything we could do to support her and the family we're behind them all the way," said Naas.
Officials have not said how Gillett knew the two alleged victims. He is being held in the Cherokee County Jail without bond.
