Former Taylor County Jailer Justin Donnell Clark Arrested in Alleged Inmate Sex Case
A former jail employee in Taylor County, Georgia, was arrested after an internal investigation found he allegedly engaged in sexual contact with a female inmate on multiple occasions, authorities said.
Taylor County Sheriff John “Bubba” Sawyer announced Wednesday that the investigation began after the sheriff’s office received a tip alleging inappropriate conduct between the jailer and a female detainee. Investigators gathered evidence suggesting the encounters occurred three separate times while the woman was in custody.
The sheriff’s office arrested 36-year-old Justin Donnell Clark of Americus in connection with the case. Clark, who has since been fired from his position, was charged following the internal probe, though officials did not immediately release specific charges.
Under Georgia law and the sheriff’s office policy, sexual contact between a detention officer and an inmate is prohibited and considered a serious felony offense. Sheriff Sawyer emphasized that no law enforcement officer is above the law and said the department has “zero tolerance” for such conduct.
The case has been forwarded to state prosecutors, and the investigation into Clark’s conduct is ongoing.
