him he was charged with cruelty to children in the first degree and false imprisonment.
Deputies booked Recardo Wimbush and Therian Wimbush into jail on the same charges. Both are being held in Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
During their separate first appearances the judge told them they were not eligible for a bond.
”There is no bond set on those warrants at this time. I don’t have authority at this hearing to set a bond so I can’t even consider that, the judge said.
Authorities said the couple locked their 13-year-old son in a small concrete room for years.
The boy told police he was allowed out a couple times a day to eat and on occasion to brush his teeth.
Police say the room contained a mattress, box spring and bucket, which he used as a restroom.
”The windows had been painted over. There was a mattress and box spring, Jake Smith with Gwinnett County police said.
Police said the boy’s 9 other siblings also lived in the Buford home and were in good health.
All of the children are now in state custody.
The child’s parents told police they locked him in the room for disciplinary reasons.
Neighbors were appalled at the news.
The couple will face a judge again on July 10 at 1:30 p.m. for their preliminary hearings.
