Former DeKalb County teacher sentenced to 30 years in prison
A former DeKalb County school teacher convicted of statutory rape and child molestation is sentenced to 30 years in prison.
Superior Court Judge Gail Flake handed down Almarcus Thomas's sentence today. Thomas had sex with a 14-year-old student while employed at Tucker Middle School.
"These alleged crimes involve a man who preyed on a minor while in a position of authority and respect as an educator," said District Attoey Robert James. "This plea reflects the acts of a monster who molested, abused and took advantage of women and children in DeKalb County. We hope this begins the healing process for all individuals and families affected by these heinous crimes."
Thomas must serve 20 years of his 30 year sentence. He has been in jail since Feb. 28, 2012.
