ATLANTA - A former Cobb County police officer is expected to be sentenced Thursday for charges related to a fellow officer's drowning death.

Kenneth Reda, a former sergeant, reportedly pleaded guilty to 2nd degree homicide by vessel, tampering with evidence, violating his oath and three counts of false statements.

The charges stem from the death of Brent Stephens. Stephens drowned last April in Lake Allatoona.

Investigators say the SWAT team members were with Shelly Powell when their boat hit a pylon, throwing 35-year-old Brent Stephens into the water.

Reda waited 90 minutes to call for help trying to conceal an affair he was allegedly having with Powell.

He later resigned from the police force, and reportedly faces up to 24 years in prison. Charges are also pending against Powell.
