McDonough police have launched an investigation into claims that a football coach pulled a gun on a former coach in a public park, right after the team’s conditioning workout.

The alleged incident occurred at Avalon Park in Henry County Georgia, where the team conditions for the fall season. Former coach Darrell Heflin said that he was recently relieved of his duties as a volunteer coach for the team at the end of May, and was transporting equipment to the park when the current coach allegedly confronted him in the parking lot.

According to a Fox 5 report, Heflin claimed the coach brandished a weapon while the man sat in his vehicle, then exited the vehicle and displayed another weapon.

A spokesman for Henry County released a statement which read, in part: ”Although the alleged incident was between two coaches and not in the presence of children, Henry County Parks and Recreation places the safety and security of children first and takes any allegations of violence or threat of violence very seriously. Both coaches have been banned from Henry County parks, according to the county’s Parks and Recreations department. Police have said that investigators are still interviewing people in the alleged incident.
