Father sought for burning daughter, 20

A 20-year-old woman remained in critical condition at the Joseph M. Still Bu Center after being set on fire by her father, police say.

Authorities believe Jammie Maurice West, 38, set his daughter, Bianca West, on fire after a dispute over money, authorities said. West was arguing with the victim's mother in the yard of her home at 540Blum Street when the victim arrived at the home and ran to help her mother.

Investigators said West poured an ignitable liquid, most likely gasoline, from his beer bottle onto her face and upper body, Richmond County Sheriff's Lt. Calvin Chew. Using either a cigarette or a lighter he was carrying, West then set the girl ablaze, Chew said.

"She runs over to assist her mother then he proceeds to hit her with the beer bottle and sets her on fire," Chew said.

Bianca West, 20, was bued on about 20 percent of her body, including her face, head, arms and chest, authorities said. The girl's boyfriend told deputies that he tried to put out the fire with his hands but wasn't able to get the flames to go away, according to a sheriff's report. Finally, the girl's mother came outside and smothered the fire with her robe.

Richmond County Sheriff's investigators are still searching for Mr. West in connection with the case, Lt. Chew said.

West is on parole for voluntary manslaughter, according to prison records.

Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Jammie West is asked to call the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at (706) 821-1080 or (706) 821-1020.
