Family, friends seek answers in shooting of Sandy Springs woman Adina Parson

Family and friends of a Sandy Springs woman shot eight times outside her apartment are baffled by what happened and are looking for justice.

Adina Parson, 40, was found late Friday night near her apartment at the Residences at Morgan Falls complex on Roswell Road.

Police tell Channel 2's Mike Petchenik someone shot Parson three times in the head and five times in her body, then left her for dead.

"This is truly a person who did not deserve this in any way," said Stephanie Webb, a former co-worker of Parson's at the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.

Webb said Parson was a staff attoey for the agency for several years before taking a job with the Georgia Department of Public Health in November.

"She is the type of person who would literally give you the shirt off her back," said Webb.

Co-worker Lamar Smith agreed.

"It's hard to imagine that anybody would want to do this to her," he said. "Adina was very committed to children and families and was also very committed to her church family as well."

Sunday night, nearly 100 friends, family and church members held a vigil for Parson outside the apartment complex.

Another vigil is scheduled for Tuesday night at Elizabeth Baptist Church's Smya location.

Parson's family flew down from New York City to be by her side at Grady Memorial Hospital, where she remains in critical, but stable condition.

"Adina's a very loving, just a sweet young lady," her aunt Pam Dickerson told Petchenik. "There's no reason for this."

Dickerson told Petchenik the family is looking for some kind of answer about what happened to her.

"This is just a unique, tragic situation," she said.
