Experts Meet on Global Jobless Recovery
There is growing conce the world is heading toward a global jobless recovery.
That's when the economy grows even though people continue to lose their jobs.
Wednesday moing a panel of economic experts is meeting at Georgia State University to discuss ways to boost job creation.
Just last week, thousands showed up at the Gwinnett County Job Fair hoping to get a leg up on the economy.
Georgia's unemployment rate declined slightly from 10 percent in June to 9.9 percent in July. But Georgia's labor commissioner says the drop results from a number of long term unemployed workers who are so discouraged they've stopped looking.
And nationally optimism is hard to find. The labor department reports claims for jobless benefits climbed by 12,000 and is at its highest level since November. In Washington, the blame is being passed from the White House to Republicans and back again.
How America's economy will affect the global economy is the topic of Georgia State's quarterly forecast. But experts nationally say the outlook is bleak.
The meeting is slated to start at 8:30 a.m.
