Ex-Volunteer Firefighter Marvin Chase Indicted on Arson Charges
Marvin Chase

Authorities say a former volunteer firefighter in north Georgia has been indicted on eight counts of arson and is accused of setting a series of blazes because they say he enjoyed the rush of helping to put them out.

LaFayette police Sgt. Stacey Meeks says Marvin Chase was indicated on the charges this week by a grand jury in Walker County, in Georgia's northwest coer.

Meeks says the fires were mostly set to abandoned houses. He said authorities believe Chase set fires because he enjoyed the action, adventure and recognition that came with helping to fight them.

Attoey David West said his client categorically denies he had any involvement in setting the fires. West said he hasn't yet seen the indictment, but said he believes the evidence is largely circumstantial.
