Ex-teacher Ashley Payne loses battle over Facebook page
A former Barrow County teacher lost a battle in court over what was posted on her Facebook page.
In 2009, Apalachee high school teacher Ashley Payne resigned after a parent complained that items on Payne’s page were inappropriate. She said she was pressured to resign, but the district said she volunteered, according to the Atlanta Joual Constitution.
School officials said Payne had pictures of herself holding alcoholic drinks during a trip to Europe posted on Facebook. They also said her page included profane language. Payne had written she was headed to a game of ”Crazy Bitch Bingo at a midtown Atlanta restaurant.
Payne filed suit, requesting entitlement to a due process hearing and back pay for legal fees. Though she lost the suit, Payne's attoey filed more challenges to the firing that the judge is still considering.
