DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- A DeKalb County grand jury handed up a 12-count indictment against a former police officer Wednesday afteoon.

Quevius Thoton, 29, faces five counts of statutory rape, four counts of aggravated child molestation and one count of simple battery after investigators said he had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl.

He also faces a marijuana possession charge and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

GA Daily News reporter Manuel Bojorquez combed through the indictment and found that investigators believe the relationship started in October 2010, and lasted through Dec. 30, 2010.

Thoton is also accused of slapping the girl, according to the documents.

DeKalb County police said they received information about the alleged relationship in January and began investigating.

Thoton resigned a few days later.

He joined the department in 2008.

At the time of the arrest, the DeKalb Police Chief said, "This type of officer misconduct is inexcusable. It's inherent in order to maintain the public's trust that our officers serve with great character and honor."

Thoton remains in the DeKalb County Jail.
