Ex-KKK leader Neal Ray Schmidt Sentenced In Ga. For Sex Crimes
Investigators said 58-year-old Neal Ray Schmidt used his computer to set up the meeting and then traveled, from St. Louis to a pre-arranged location in Henry County. Schmidt was arrested Monday, June 21, 2010.

ATLANTA -- A 59-year-old former leader of a Ku Klux Klan chapter was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for seeking to have sex with two teenage girls, authorities said.

Neal Ray Schmidt was sentenced Thursday after he pleaded guilty to driving from St. Louis to Georgia for what he hoped would be a sexual encounter with two 14-year-old girls he met online.

He arranged to drive to a motel near McDonough in June 2010 to meet the two, and was arrested in the motel parking lot. Officials said he was carrying guns, KKK paraphealia and sex toys and supplies.

Prosecutors said Schmidt is the former Grand Dragon for the Missouri chapter of the KKK.
