Effingham County Jury Picked in Craig Heidt Murder Trial

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. - A jury has been selected in southeast Georgia to hear the murder trial of a 42-year-old man charged with fatally shooting his father and brother, both prominent real estate developers in Effingham County.

Prosecutors say 42-year-old Craig Heidt also shot and wounded his mother, who survived the August 2008 attack. Her husband, Philip Heidt, and 32-year-old son, Carey Heidt, both died from gunshot wounds.

A jury of four men and eight women was selected Tuesday to hear the case in this county northeast of Savannah.

Philip Heidt was a well-known developer in Effingham County, where he was also a past president of the local chamber of commerce. His slain son worked with him.

Craig Heidt faces life in prison if convicted. The trial is scheduled to open Wednesday.
