Deputies Shoot Woman After Hammer Attack

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - Officers opened fire on a woman, killing her after they said she attacked one of them with a hammer.

It happened in Cartersville Thursday night as Bartow County Sheriff’s deputies and Cartersville police attempted to arrest an armed robbery suspect.

While at a residence, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said a white female in her mid-20s attacked one of the officers with a hammer. The injured officer is being treated for his injuries, Bankhead said.

The robbery suspect fled and was still at large.
