Deputies arrest driver accused of hitting student getting off bus

Deputies arrested a driver accused of a hitting a high school student getting off the school bus.

It happened just after 4 p.m. at Bomar Rd and Springside Drive in Douglas County.

Deputies say the car tried to pass the bus while it was stopped, hit the teen and then took off, passing another school bus as she sped away.

The 17-year-old girl, who attends New Manchester High School, suffered lower leg injuries but is expected to be OK, according to witnesses.

One student who got off the bus with the girl says they were in shock when it all happened.

"It happened really fast. Just right when we got off the bus she hit her and then she stopped to see if she was OK and then got back in the car and left," said student Jason Hardy. "She didn’t help her up or anything. She just went on with her day like it was a regular day."

Police arrested the driver not far from the scene. They say she will face numerous charges.
