DeKalb police want to know if one of their own tried to convince a witness not to report a crime.

Channel 2's Erica Byfield started asking questions about a sergeant's status after a department spokesperson sent GA Daily News his picture, an incident report and a statement.

The statement read: "We are investigating allegations of a rape that took place on Dec. 16, 2011. As a part if this investigation we are trying to determine if one of our officers influenced a witness or obstructed justice in this case. Sgt. Eric Adkinson is currently on restrictive duty pending the outcome of this investigation. No additional information is available at this time."

The incident report offers little information. It said there was an alleged rape in a Lithonia house in mid-December but wasn't reported to the police until February.

Investigators won't say why, but they want to know if Adkinson had anything to do with the delay in reporting the alleged crime.

Byfield dug into the sergeant's background and found out he is the president of a motorcycle club in Clarkston called Front Runnerz.

People who live in the neighborhood where the rape supposedly happened told Byfield the man who lives here has a motorcycle.

GA Daily News is not using the name of the man accused of rape because he has not been charged.
