Decatur Couple Attacked, Robbed then Shot
DECATUR, Ga. -- Police have released a sketch of a man they say shot a woman near the Decatur square.
The shooting happened on June 12 along North McDonough Street.
Investigators said the man along with another attacked a couple as they walked to their car.
Late Monday, Channel 2's Erica Byfield spoke to the female victim, Amy Schuster, on the phone.
Schuster told her, "One second I saw the gun, and the next I was shot."
The bullet hit Schuster in the abdomen and is now lodged in her hip.
Schuster's boyfriend, Patrick Hagan, was with her at the time of the assault. The couple is from South Georgia.
When Hagan attempted to defend her, the second man tackled him.
After shooting, the attackers stole Schuster's red 2004 Toyota Tacoma. The vehicle’s license plate number is BJQ 6805.
Soon after, Hagan flagged down a man driving a Jeep.
"They seemed really scared, and confused and he had been beaten up so he wasn't really coherent," said Johnny Martinez.
Martinez said he then drove the couple to the hospital.
"I would want someone to do that for me, and I would want someone to do that for my family," Martinez said.
Schuster told Byfield she believes the man who shot her in his teens.
Schuster said she now walks with a cane, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the men is asked to call the Decatur police.
