KENNESAW, Ga. -- A Cobb County high school student -- who had become trapped on railroad tracks -- was rescued during a frantic effort as a train barreled toward them in Kennesaw, authorities said.

The Marietta Daily Joual reported that 18-year-old Kyle Ford of Kennesaw was working at the Big Shanty Festival when his foot became stuck between the rail and a concrete pad. The mishap occurred near Cherokee and Main streets Saturday evening.

Ford said he looked up and saw a train coming at him. He said everyone was screaming, and people were crying.

Kennesaw Police Officer Scott Luther said members of the Georgia Defense Force worked for several minutes to free Ford's foot. He said they ended up cutting his shoe to free him before the train arrived.
