CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Clayton County police have upgraded charges against a teenager accused of shooting a man at least five times in the face as he walked his dog.

James Glenn III, 19, now faces murder charges after 57-year-old Cliff Brannon died from his injuries.

Glenn had faced aggravated assault and aggravated battery after the shooting left Brannon brain dead.

Officers said on Aug. 27, Glenn confronted Brannon in the Brigadoon Town Home community off Mount Zion Boulevard in Morrow.

Investigators don't have a motive but said Glenn pulled out a .25-caliber handgun and opened fire.

Neighbors said Brannon managed to make it back to his home where he dialed 911. Several people in the community told Channel 2's GA Daily News that Brannon was known for walking his dog.

"He would walk his dog in the moing and at nighttime," said one neighbor who didn't want to be identified.

"He'd get out at 1:30, 2 o'clock in the moing and walk his dog just to make everybody feel safer," another said.

Glenn went before a judge to hear the charges he faces before Brannon died. That was when he heard he faces aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

"There's no bond at this time on those charges," Magistrate Judge Richard Brown told the teen.

A day later, Brannon died and the charges became more serious.

Neighbors wonder if an incident the day before Brannon was shot played a role.

"I tried to tell Cliff. I tried to tell Cliff, 'Don't fool with these young bucks around here ... they all got guns,'" neighbor Glenn Fielding said.

Neighbors said Brannon caught someone attempting to break into his truck the day before he was shot. They said the would-be thief ran away so fast that he left his sandals. They said Brannon nailed them to a tree to send a message to criminals.

A day later, Brannon was shot in the face.

"To shoot somebody like that, that's just wrong. I don't care man," Fielding said in anger.

"I think it's horrible. It makes the community feel like it's not safe," another neighbor said.

Police said Glenn has confessed to the shooting.

The incident took place on the same day as the Moe's Package Store robbery where clerk Deon Causey was killed. The store is about a mile away.
