Connecticut man John Taylor found dead next to $12 million of marijuana
Police in Gwinnett County have discovered an estimated twelve million dollars’ worth of marijuana by accident while investigating the death of a man found near the pot. The man had apparently died of natural causes.
Corporal Michele Pihera of the Gwinnett County Police Department said ”The street value for all of this marijuana is estimated to be about $12 million, and indicated that the marijuana was discovered under very strange circumstances saying, ”To find $12 million worth of marijuana next to a dead person, dying of natural causes was quite unusual, The man was found slumped over near a white van in the storage yard at about 1 a.m. on Monday, with no signs of foul play.
Police said that officers began to notice a strong smell of marijuana coming from the van while waiting for the Medical Examiners to remove the man’s body. They then secured search warrants for the van and a nearby tractor-trailer which had boxes in it that appeared very similar to the ones in the van.
”They noticed similar boxes in both those vehicles and that’s what led to them doing a little bit more investigation and the discovery of all the marijuana, said Corporal Pihera.
The man found next to the haul has been identified as 31- year- old John Taylor of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Police say security footage shows a man dropping off a tractor trailer followed by a person in the white van the night before Taylor was found dead.
Police said that they do not know the exact cause of Taylor’s death, which was only described as natural causes by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
