Teacher accused of failing to report suspected child abuse

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga.  -- Sheriff's deputies say they have arrested a Columbia County teacher for failing to report suspected child abuse

Jon Mark Thohill, Jr., 34, a physical education coach with Columbia Middle School, has been charged with misdemeanor failure to report child abuse after a parent discovered Snapchat messages between him and a student.

 According to the incident report, The child's told investigators that her daughter was acting suspicious with her cell phone by attempting to hide it. So she took her phone and saw several Snapchat messages on the phone between her daughter and Thohill.

In one of the messages, the girl's mother said her daughter told Thohill that she had been sexually assaulted by her father in the past. In other messages, the girl reportedly told Thohill that she missed him and his hugs.
