Cobb police officer shot, wounded following traffic stop

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

A Cobb County police officer was shot early Tuesday moing, and is expected to recover.

The shooting happened at around 2:30 a.m. along Powers Ferry Rd. north of Interstate 285, according to Cobb police.

Police say the shooting followed a traffic stop involving a blue Volvo.

The wounded officer is described as being in stable condition.

Several hours later, there was still extensive police activity at the shooting scene.

Police have not made any arrests, although they have recovered the vehicle that was involved in the traffic stop.

They tell us they are now searching for a red Dodge Stratus with a Georgia license plate PJG-7617.

Officers say they believe two men and a woman are traveling in that vehicle.
