Cobb EMC CEO Dwight Brown Out of Jail

MARIETTA, Ga. - A grand jury indicted him on charges he stole millions of dollars from power customers.

But the CEO of Cobb EMC didn't post a dime to get out of jail. Dwight Brown tued himself in Thursday night and was released a short time later despite more than 30 charges against him. 

Nearly two years ago GBI agents raided the home of the Cobb EMC Chief Executive Officer Dwight Brown.

Among the evidence gathered at the time were boxes of tax retus, computer records and bank statements. Now that same evidence has led authorities to indict the CEO on 31 counts including charges of racketeering, theft and making false statements.

The indictment says "it was part if racketeering activity that Dwight Brown, together with others known and unknown to the grand jury, devised and intended to devise a scheme to acquire and maintain interests in Cobb energy."

In the indictment the Cobb County District Attoey's Office alleges Brown stole millions from the utility company's customers including the Cobb County school system and county govement.

According to the document, "for over a decade, Dwight T. Brown engaged and participated in a patte of racketeering that included the theft of millions of dollars from Cobb EMC, the theft of millions of dollars in patronage capital from Cobb EMC's members and false statements to conceal those thefts."

Through his attoey -- Brown has denied any wrongdoing and says he's done nothing illegal.
