Cobb County sailor Brandon Haith shot to death in Virginia Beach

The investigation continued Monday into a shooting that killed a Cobb County sailor, Virginia Beach police said.

About 12:40 a.m. Saturday, Brandon Marcellus Haith, 21, of Powder Springs, was found lying in the street at the intersection of 24th Street and Barberton Drive, Officer P.C. D’Orio said. Haith had been shot and died at the scene, D’Orio said.

Haith was stationed in Norfolk on the USS San Antonio.

Steven Joyce told 13 News Now he had served with Haith, and had carved a cross in a tree as a way to remember Haith.

”We hung out a lot, he’s not really the partyer type, he’s just like a silent kid, hard-worker, Joyce said.

A vigil was held Sunday afteoon in the same area where Haith was found. Haith attended McEache High School, according to his Facebook profile.

The shooting remained under investigation.
