Clayton County Sheriff-elect Victor Hill to face judge Monday

Clayton County Sheriff-elect Victor Hill will go before a judge in a motions hearing for his upcoming criminal trial on Monday.  He faces a 37-count indictment in a corruption case stemming from his previous term as sheriff, and it could keep him from taking his post.

The allegations against Hill include ordering an employee to help him write a book, using county funds to pay for a vacation rental, putting an employee on paid administrative leave so she could travel with him, and misusing county vehicles.

All along, Hill has maintained his innocence, and he claims the charges against him are politically motivated.  Hill has said he believes they have been brought about by outgoing Sheriff Kem Kimbrough to prevent Hill from winning back the job.

Despite the indictment, residents voted last month to put Hill back in office, choosing him over the man leveling the charges.  Once he's swo into office, Goveor Nathan Deal could suspend Hill and select an interim sheriff, but only if the case is still pending in the court system.
