Cartersville School Copes with Student's Death

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - Young students in Cartersville are leaing a hard lesson Tuesday. They're dealing with the death of one of their classmates.

Grief counselors were at Cartersville Elementary School to help students and staff cope with the death of third grader Garrett Black.

"Everyone was just shocked and it has really rocked the community," said one woman.

Police in Cartersville say Black, 8, was killed Monday when he was hit by a school bus. It happened at the end of the school day, at the bus depot where his mother works.

Many of the Cartersville school buses were just getting back to the depot. Police say Black had just hopped off the bus he rode each day to the facility to meet his mother. That's when another bus struck and killed him.

News spread rapidly through the the community. Black's little league teammates and coaches paused Monday to pray for his family.

Police say they don't expect to file charges in they say was an "awful accident."
