Car With Child Inside Stolen From Day Care

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Police are on the lookout for a man who stole a car outside a day care facility in Clayton County.

GA Daily News reporter Ryan Young spoke with investigators who said the man took off on foot after crashing the stolen car into a BMW on Interstate 285. Two people were injured in the crash.

The events started outside the Safe Haven Leaing Academy off Riverdale Road.

Investigators said a woman left her car running while she dropped off one of her children at day care. A second child was still in the car.

Police said the man jumped in the vehicle, and when he noticed the 6-year-old girl inside, he told her to get out but she refused.

The man then took the child out of the car and sped off, police said.

Officers spotted him driving erratically on I-285. He slammed into a BMW near Jonesboro Road, abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, investigators said.

He was last seen wearing a blue work jumpsuit.
