A car slammed into a pump at a gas station in Gwinnett County on Friday.

Authorities said that the driver of a Nissan Pathfinder lost control on Lawrenceville Highway and crashed at a CITGO store. A witness said that the gas pumps erupted into flames, which spilled onto another car. Occupants of the second car escaped without injury.

Police said that the driver of the Pathfinder left the scene on foot down James Road. Authorities later caught up with him and took him into custody.

The driver faces numerous charges, including hit-and-run.

It was not immediately clear why the driver lost control of the vehicle or fled from police.

No names have been released.
