Buckhead Burger King Robber Shot, Killed
ATLANTA - Detectives are investigating an officer involved shooting at a Burger King restaurant on Peachtree Road that left a robbery suspect dead.
Atlanta police were called to the scene around 6 a.m. Wednesday at the Burger King in Buckhead.
Atlanta police say a man entered the restaurant as it opened and tried to rob the restaurant. An employee inside the restaurant called 911, and possibly set off a silent alarm.
An officer patrolling nearby responded to the call and confronted the suspect inside the store. According to police, the suspect was armed with a weapon. The officer told the suspect to put the weapon down. The suspect tued to face the officer. The officer fired twice, injuring the suspect.
Police say the suspect was able to run out the back door of the restaurant. The officer ran out the front door and once again the suspect was confronted by the officer. The officer fired again, possibly as many as 7 or 8 shots, killing the suspect.
Atlanta police officer Major Keith Meadows says they are investigating to determine if the shooting was justified.
Police say they are investigating to see if the suspect may be connected to other robberies in the metro Atlanta area.
It's the second time in as many days that a Buckhead restaurant was the scene of a crime. On Tuesday, Willy's Mexicana Grille on West Paces Ferry Road was robbed of an undetermined amount of cash. No one was hurt in that robbery.
