Officials with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office report a shooting of a 10-year-old boy. Authorities said it happened at the boy's home at 135 Edmondson Way in Fayette County.

Fayette County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Lt. Belinda McCastle said the victim's 12-year-old brother shot him in the back of the head while playing outside. The 10-year-old is in critical condition, but officials are not saying if the injuries are life threatening.

Fayette County authorities said the owner of the weapon, a 9mm handgun, is the boy's father. Investigators said the handgun was left in the kitchen, loaded.

The boys' father was out of the house at the time of the shooting. Authorities have not said if there will be any charges against the father.
