Bond denied for accused murderer Skyy Mims in Dalton store killing

A woman accused of murdering a Dalton convenience store clerk appeared in a Whitfield County courtroom on Monday.

Skyy Mims, an aspiring model and rapper, is accused of murdering Dahyabhi Kalidas Chaudhari, 37, on March 9 at a Dalton gas station. Police say Mims fatally stabbed Chaudhari inside the store on Airport Road, before stealing cash and lottery tickets.

Prosecutors believe robbery was the motive.

The grand jury retued an 11 count indictment against Mims in May. The 21-year-old's attoey challenged the prosecution's claim that Mims is the suspect captured in store surveillance video. She says she has proof someone who bears a striking resemblance to her client killed the clerk.

In asking for bond, Mims' attoey told the court the Detroit native was a college graduate, had no criminal record and that the defendant's mother was in the process of moving to the area.

The judge denied that request, calling Mims a flight risk. Her trial is set for November 3.

Mims' friends reached out to her via social media in the days following the killing, posting accusatory messages on her Facebook page soon after she was named a murder suspect.

Her family traveled from out-of-state for Monday's hearing. They insist Mims could not have committed such a horrific crime.
