Bike Tossed Off Interstate Overpass Hits SUV; Driver Injured

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. - A Cartersville family is lucky to be alive after someone tossed a bicycle off an interstate overpass, striking their SUV.

The bizarre incident happened near the Bartow-Cherokee County line and sent one of the family members to an area hospital.

GA Daily News reporter Ross Cavitt spoke with the driver, who is still in disbelief.

”I just can’t believe somebody would do such a thing … taking the risk of killing me or killing my whole family is such a thoughtless act. I hope they pay for it said Jeremy Bassett.

Bassett said he was headed home from a holiday get-together with his wife, sister and 22-month-old daughter when someone tossed a bicycle off a bridge, and onto his moving vehicle.

”We’re lucky nobody got killed today, said Bassett.

Bassett said the bike struck his windshield and shattered the glass.

The seat from the kid-size bike hit Bassett in the face and destroyed his side-view mirror.

”It came through and hit me in the face, said Bassett. He went to Cartersville Hospital to get checked out.

Police said there are several neighborhoods near the Groover's Landing overpass where the incident happened. Investigators are asking anyone with information to give them a call.
