Bartender's Killer Jonathan Redding Sentenced To Life In Prison
ATLANTA -- A jury quickly convicted a 19-year-old charged in the killing of an Atlanta bartender on Monday. He will now spend the rest of his life in jail.
Jonathan Redding was found guilty of murder, aggravated assault and 16 other charges linked to the January 2009 killing of John Henderson.
Channel 2’s Jeff Dore was in the courtroom as the verdict was read just after noon.
Jurors spent less than two hours deliberating, an average of just six minutes per charge.
Later Monday afteoon, the judge sentenced Redding to life in prison plus 70 years.
Prosecutors said Redding, an alleged member of the "30 Deep" gang, gunned down Henderson as he was leaving Standard Food & Spirits Bar in Atlanta's Grant Park neighborhood.
He was also charged with robbing an employee outside the bar and a home invasion in southwest Atlanta.
His blood and gun found at the home invasion lead police to link him to the bar shooting.
The defense rested their case without calling any witnesses and said the defendant would not testify.
The judge threw out some lesser charges for lack of evidence
