Police said a would-be burglar was recovering in the hospital on Monday after a business owner took matters into his own hands.

Authorities in DeKalb County say the man was trying to break into a barber shop on North Hairston Road around 2 a.m. when the owner of the shop opened fire on him.

Investigators say the owner had been sleeping at the shop after a series of break-ins, and he began firing shots when he heard glass breaking.

The shop owner was able to hold the burglary suspect until police arrived on the scene.
