Baby cut out of womb of pregnant woman stabbed in Colorado

A PREGNANT woman has been beaten and stabbed before the foetus was cut from her womb.

The 26-year-old Longmont woman, who was seven months pregnant, drove to showed up at a house in the city of Longmont, which is about 50 km from Denver, Colorado, to buy baby clothes she’d seen in a Craigslist post.

What police say happened then is horrific. The 34-year-old woman who lives at the home, stabbed the pregnant woman and “removed” her baby from her womb.

“Officers arrived on scene and could hear a female calling for help inside the home. Officers entered the home and located a female who had been beaten and stabbed in the stomach,” according to a statement from Longmont Police Department.

The alleged attacker, a 34-year-old woman, showed up at Longmont United Hospital with the dead foetus, claiming she had a miscarriage, Longmont Police Commander Jeffrey M. Satur said.

“This is a tragic case for a mother right now,” Satur told TimesCall. “She came by this house. She was attacked, and her baby was removed from her.”

The alleged assailant was arrested at the hospital on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and child abuse knowingly and recklessly resulting in death.

Satur said that the alleged attacker has two children. Her husband apparently drove her and the baby to the hospital and then retued later. He has not been arrested and is not a suspect.

The suspect may have been mentally ill, officials told Times-Call.

Satur said the pregnant woman was taken to Longmont United Hospital where she underwent surgery and is expected to recover.

Boulder County District Attoey Stan Gaett said his office will consider what charges are appropriate.

“The issues involving an unbo child are complicated under Colorado law,” Gaett said. “In most circumstances, if a child was not actually bo alive, then homicide charges are not possible. With a case like this, most of the time charges would not need to be filed until sometime next week.”
