The swirling wave-like clouds look like something from a French impressionist painting.
The Breckenridge Resort in Colorado shared the image of the Rocky Mountains shrouded by the inspiring cloud formation to social media over the weekend.
The phenomena is called the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability, according to iflscience.com. It happens in clouds when two different layers of air have different speed and density.
It's named after Baron Kelvin and Hermann von Helmholtz.
