Georgia teacher Amy Gardner, officer lose home in house fire surrounded by icy roads

HABERSHAM COUNTY, Ga. — A north Georgia couple and their young daughter escaped a house fire that destroyed their home amid icy road conditions earlier this week.

Jon and Amy Gardner, along with their daughter, Adilynn, got out safely from the Habersham County residence on Jan. 28 but were left with only the clothes they were wearing, their family said in an online fundraiser. Their home and belongings were a total loss.

Amy Gardner, a teacher with two decades of experience, and her husband Jon Gardner, a police officer, serve the local community, according to the fundraising page. The family expressed gratitude for the help they’ve received and said they are relying “on God to carry them through this storm.”

The fire occurred while the region was still coping with the effects of a recent ice storm that left roads slick and hazardous, complicating travel and emergency response.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist the family with immediate needs and recovery efforts.
