Augusta man Alvin Sturgis Jr indicted in fatal shooting

A Richmond County grand jury has re-indicted the man charged with fatally shooting 32-year-old Edward Cousette on Sept. 18.

Alvin Sturgis Jr., 23, of the 3600 block of Old McDuffie Road, is facing charges of murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and weapons violations, according to the indictment. The grand jury originally indicted Sturgis on Dec. 7 but left off the junior suffix in the paperwork. All of the charges remained the same.

Authorities have previously said that robbery was the suspected motive in the shooting and the indictment seems to confirm that. Sturgis is accused of stealing four rings, a pair of earrings and a cell phone from Cousette.

The indictment also charges Sturgis with of shooting another man on the same date. That man, Ibnmubarack Al-Muid, survived the gunshot.

Cousette’s body was found at Trinity Manor Apartments at 2375 Barton Chapel Road.
