Atlanta School Board Head Khaatim Sherrer El Steps Down
ATLANTA - The embattled head of the Atlanta School Board has stepped down. Khaatim Sherrer El made it official at an emergency meeting of the board held on Wednesday.
Brenda Muhammad has been elected to take El's place.
El had been criticized for decivise leadership as the board came under constant fire from the Atlanta mayor, Georgia's goveor, and SACS.
SACS had put the school district on probabtion in January 2010 for goveance issues.
Muhammad said the change in leadership is a "new beginning." She said the next step for the board is to get a new superintendent.
El declined comment as he left the meeting.
