ATLANTA — An Atlanta woman has been charged with murder after police say she deliberately gave her 2-month-old son alcohol in a baby bottle, leading to the infant’s death, authorities said Friday.

Omayrilin Colon, 37, was charged with murder and first-degree cruelty to children in connection with the October death, according to Fulton County court records. She appeared in bond court Friday, waived her first appearance and was denied bond, said police.

Officers responded to reports of an unresponsive baby at an apartment on Perry Boulevard last October, and the infant was rushed to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

An autopsy and toxicology tests showed the baby’s blood-alcohol concentration was 0.179,  more than twice the legal limit for an adult, and investigators determined the alcohol was ingested from a bottle, not through breast milk, police said.

Police said evidence shows Colon intentionally placed alcohol in the bottle the child drank. A public defender for Colon declined to comment.
