Atlanta city councilwoman Cleta Winslow arrested on DUI charges
An Atlanta city councilwoman bonded out of jail Wednesday moing after getting arrested on DUI charges.
Cleta Winslow, who represents District 4 of Atlanta, was arrested on DUI charges around 11:14 p.m. Tuesday.
An Atlanta police officer patrolling the area around Oglethorpe Avenue and Peeples Street noticed a gray Honda Accord commit multiple traffic violations, Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said the officer pulled over Winslow, who showed ”signs of impairment.
Police said Winslow admitted to having a few drinks, but refused to do a field sobriety test. In addition to DUI, she faces several charges, including driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to stop for a stop sign and red light violation.
She was released from jail on a $3,355 bond.
Winslow is known for revitalizing historic neighborhoods. She's also a member of the Atlanta City Council Public Safety Committee.
Atlanta City Council President Caesar Mitchell released the following statement Wednesday afteoon:
”I am aware that Councilwoman Cleta Winslow was arrested by Atlanta Police on suspicion of DUI on the evening of May 7. This is a personal matter for Councilwoman Winslow, and the most prudent thing to do at this time is to allow the judicial process to take its proper course. My thoughts and prayers are with the Councilwoman and her family.
