Athens Doctor Mark Adams Surrenders on Rape Charge

An Athens urologist is being held at the Clarke County jail after surrendering to authorities on charges of sexual battery and rape.

Athens-Clarke County Police Capt. Clarence Holeman said Friday the allegations against 48-year-old Dr. Mark Adams stem from a complaint made by a patient in July 2009. Holeman says the charge was made after authorities received a report on the evidence from the state crime lab.

 

Holeman says the doctor surrendered Thursday night, and has not yet appeared in court. He says no other complaints have been made against Adams.

The doctor's attoey, Ed Tolley, did not immediately retu a telephone call seeking comment.
