Arson suspected in string of apartment fires

Investigators are considering the possibility of arson after firefighters battled flames at the same vacant apartment complex several times in the past six months.

Early Thursday moing, firefighters were sent to the Colony of Stone Mountain complex on Chatfield Drive in DeKalb County.

Battalion Chief Christopher Morrison said every building in the complex is vacant, but his firefighters are familiar with the complex.

”Within the last six months, we’ve come here several times. We do have an ongoing investigation with our fire investigators, Morrison said.

The other fires were similar in nature, which leads investigators to believe someone deliberately set them.

”We had five units at one time and we had another two units within the last six months, Morrison said.

No one was injured in Thursday’s fire and no nearby complexes were in danger.
